Sets no seedpods. Grows to 60 ft, with lower limbs eventually spreading to 20 – 25 ft. In spring and summer, leaves are deep glossy green; in fall, leaves turn purple, yellow, or red. Produces spiky fruit. Roots can cause damage to sidewalks or paving. Resistant to oak root fungus. One of the best trees for fall color. Root guards can be used in order to restrain roots.
