Ultimate Party Backyard with Swimming Pool Bar

Everything about this property says movement, excitement, party!

Movement in landscape design encompasses both visual flow and physical change within a landscape. It may involve actual movement, such as the flow of water or the swaying of plants, or it could be an implied movement crafted by lines and forms that direct the viewer’s eye.

This principle can be manifested through various elements, such as the layout of paths, the direction of plantings, and the interplay of light and shadow, all of which guide the viewer through the space to create a dynamic and engaging experience. Movement connects different elements, establishing a visual narrative or rhythm.

Additionally, I see movement also as a call to action or a representation of ongoing activity within the space.

Movement is abundant throughout this project, evident in both the dynamic water features, color changing lights and the many compelling calls to action. The slide beckons children and the child within each of us adults to embark on an adventure. The bar area draws us into a unique experience, requiring us to swim through a cascading waterfall to reach the bar stools. Nearby, the kiddie lounge chairs offer an inviting spot to pause and relax. The spa, with its soothing waterfall, entices us to immerse ourselves, relieving our aching muscles while warming up. Finally, the outdoor dining area encourages us to gather, cook, and savor a snack or meal together, enhancing the overall sense of movement and interaction.

Vision: Demetri, a restaurateur, dreamed of creating the ultimate backyard oasis for his close-knit family and grandkids—a space that would bring the entire family, their friends, and the children’s friends together for countless gatherings.

The entire family contributed to this vision with countless suggestions, discussions, and even a few heated debates. Garden View developed multiple 3D conceptual plans, sparking even more dialogue. Through a collaborative process, every idea was refined, and each family member’s contribution was incorporated, resulting in a spectacular Vegas-style ultimate party backyard.

To achieve this vision, almost everything in the original backyard was removed, except for a portion of the existing pool shell. Both ends of the pool were extended: one end was designed with a Baja shelf, while the other featured a dedicated space for a slide and a splash area. The corners were rounded, or “coined,” to reflect traditional Mediterranean shapes. A bar area was added, and a new spa was seamlessly integrated, with the slide positioned gracefully behind it.

The transformation turned a house with two kitchens into a home with three extraordinary kitchens. This ultimate party pool and backyard came to life, becoming a vibrant centerpiece for family activities and celebrations. Although Demetri has since passed on, his incredible gift to the family continues to be cherished at every event, party, and family gathering.

This pool was even featured on HGTV’s “Ultimate Pools,” where it continues to bring family and friends together, fulfilling Demetri’s vision of a backyard that draws everyone closer.
