Briefly deciduous tree. Native to South Africa. To 24-40 ft. tall, 40-60 ft. wide. Drops leaves in early winter; then angular bare branches produce big clusters of deep red-orange, tubular flowers that drip nectar. In late winter or earlier, flowers give way to fresh, light green foliage. Will grow very fast with lots of water. Wood becomes weak with over-water.
