Fast growing deciduous tree from China. Needs some winter chill. Grows to 50 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Strongly vertical branches. Broadly oval, scallop-edged, leather, 1 ½-3 inch long leaves that are glossy dark green, turning purplish red in fall. White flowers in late April and early May. Produces small round inedible fruit.  Aristocrat and Bradford available
